Our first flag sale!

First flag sold… to my cousin Bobby

Way back on February 26, 2023, I told my cousin Bobby about our flag. We were in the very early stages of finder a manufacturer, etc. I sent him photos of the prototypes and he said “Let me know what they cost. I’d like to get one.” (There was actually one person ahead of him, but that will be a separate story for our journal!). Bobby and I spent a lot of time together as kids on our grandfather’s property shooting BB guns and firecrackers and riding minibikes. Here we were over 50 years later doing business with each other!

Fast forward to Monday September 25th. My wife and I had Bobby’s flag (flag number 2) ready, but we were having trouble finding a time to meet. He texted me mid-morning and asked if I could meet him at his house (35 minutes from my house). I inhaled the rest of my breakfast, loaded a flag in the truck, didn’t even tie my shoes and headed down the interstate.

When I got there, his dad (my Uncle Bud) greeted me and asked to see the flag. I was kneeling tying my shoes! Bobby walked up and we unloaded the flag. Uncle Bud says “Where’s your flag?” When Bobby and I pulled it out of the back seat, my uncle says “That’s real nice… I might have you make one for me.”

My cousin and I posed for a few pictures and visited a little while. He had only seen the flag in photos, but he said he knew enough about what I was doing he was sure from the photos it was going to look great. He was not disappointed. We had a great visit and I headed to my truck.

My uncle was still sitting in the driveway in his van. He intercepts me, hands me full payment for a flag, and says “Go ahead and bring me one.”! I was so excited… two flags sold our first day! And it was extra special that those flags went to my cousin and uncle! When I got home, I decided since Bobby got flag number 2, his dad should have flag number 3! Suffice it to say our first day “in business” was better than I could have asked for, thanks to my cousin and uncle.

I’ll stop here… the rest of the day (delivering my uncle’s flag) is another good story.
